Hi Ruth, like you mentioned, everyone thinks differently and feelings differently about using pen names. Some people care and some people don’t, and they have complete control over what they decide to use. Hence, I totally respect your decision on using your first name and nickname for privacy.

To be honest, I don’t think a name matters as long as you are true to yourself in what you do. However, I do understand why it’s made you uncomfortable using a pen name.

Myself I am also quite paranoid about people finding me all over the internet. For this reason I do use my real name, and of course have no problem with my clients and email buddies knowing my name, but on websites I try to only post my first name and nickname. Sometimes I think I am overly cautious, but we’re all different and all have different thoughts about being online.

Anyway, it’s pretty brave of you to now use your real name, and it looks like nobody minds that you didn’t use it before

Hmm, I never think about this, I have used my real name in forums and blogs for as long as I can remember using the Internet.

But props to you for pushing your comfort zone! Everybodies got different ones to push at different times in their life, for different reasons, for the greater purpose of the grand scheme of things I suppose

I don’t think it matters a lot – I started my blog using my own name because I had bought the domain anyways so I might as well toss the blog onit when I left blogger.com. There have been times I have regretted having my real name out there – but on the other hand very few people who come across me forget the stupid name (I’ve always hated it -blame my father) – I am also stuck with the photo because that is recognisable as well LOL

I appreciate it and it doesn’t make me feel as self conscious about the name changes as I did before. As for not seeing if you were joking or not, I cracked up when you read that.
